Disaster at Molineux: Guardiola provides bad news after Manchester City vs Wolves match
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that two players were injured after Manchester City secured a dramatic last-minute victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.
Jorgen Strand Larsen surprised the reigning Premier League champions by putting Gary O'Neil's team ahead just seven minutes into the match at Molineux, during the eighth week of the Premier League on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
Josko Gvardiol managed to equalize for Man City, and the match remained tied until a dramatic 90+5 minute goal by John Stones secured the win.
In reality, this was a significant result for Man City after their main rivals, Arsenal, slipped against Bournemouth on Saturday and other rivals Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 to go back to the top of the table, but it wasn't all good news for Guardiola's squad.
This is because two of their players, Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne, are at risk of missing the upcoming Champions League match against Sparta Prague on Thursday.
After the match, Guardiola hinted that the condition of both players might prevent them from playing in that game.
"I don't think they will be ready," started Guardiola, "We have a few days of training, but I don't think they can make it."
Man City fans concerned as City continue to be plagued by injuries
Meanwhile, De Bruyne has been sidelined for several weeks after suffering an issue against Inter Milan in the Champions League opener.
Although Guardiola initially reassured fans that the Belgian player's injury was not serious and would not keep him out for long, his recovery is taking longer than expected.
The Man City boss will hope that both experienced players are ready to return to action for the Premier League match against Southampton next weekend.
Previously, The Cityzens have already been without Rodri due to an ACL injury and Oscar Bobb, who is likely to recover only by January.
