The UEFA Champions League held its first night on Tuesday, playing out six fixtures to get the competition underway.

The Champions League is back and ready to showcase the biggest clubs going head-to-head throughout the next months.

Matchday one has begun, kicking off on Tuesday and is set to include another six games on Wednesday, and also, as a once-off, take place on Thursday as well.

The League phase consists of eight matchdays, where all 36 clubs will meet eight different opponents and attempt to gain points to add to the joint table. Those who end within the top eight will qualify for the next round, and whoever finishes ninth to 24th must play an extra round in order to join the already qualified eight.

For now, we are a long way off from seeing which clubs end on which ranking, but the contest is now underway, and every club must give it their all in order to achieve success in this season’s Champions League.

Let’s have a look at the results from Tuesday's fixtures.

The Champions League's Tuesday results

PSV 1-3 Union SG
