Manchester City’s women's team are taking on rivals Manchester United in what will be the first Manchester derby of the Women’s Super League season.
Manchester City’s women are meeting Manchester United in the ninth Women’s Super League match weekend, a match that will not only see rivals take one another on but also is crucial for the title race.
Last match weekend, Manchester City became the new leaders of the WSL after a 2-1 win over Everton. Elsewhere, Chelsea drew 1-1 with Arsenal, giving Manchester City a one point gap. And other contenders, Manchester United, were defeated 1-0 by Aston Villa.
With these results, the Cityzens went to the top, while Manchester United, who are also in contention for the WSL, remained on third; however, they went four points away from Manchester City.
This will be quite the match, one between rivals who have everything to play for. If Manchester City can get the win, they’ll remain as leaders of the WSL; however, if Manchester United do it, they’ll get closer to first and put the Cityzens at risk of going to either second or third, depending on Chelsea’s result.
The game will be on Saturday, the 15th, at 13:30 (UK).
Let’s take a look at how the standings look going into this fixture of the Women’s Super League match weekend.
The Women’s Super League current standings
1: Manchester City 21pts
2: Chelsea 20pts
3: Manchester United 17pts

A very close top five, and the two Manchester's aren’t far apart, meaning this game will be even more crucial.
The WSL so far has provided many scenarios that have turned things around on the table, and it’s expected that we will be seeing more of that as the league goes on.
Manchester City’s Andree Jeglertz spoke ahead of the fixture, discussing the occasion that his side will be seeing.
Andree Jeglertz on Manchester City’s task
“You cannot take down how big it is. We need to live that and enjoy it. To play these kinds of games, because this is why they started playing football.”
“To have the opportunity to play a derby, they need to enjoy it. This is one of my key messages. The load will be tough, but make sure they enjoy it.”
