Manchester City have announced the renewal of star player Khadija Shaw, whose contract has been extended to 2030.

As the season comes to an end, Manchester City’s women have much to celebrate: the Women’s Super League title, a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League next term, and a potential FA Cup triumph as they take on Brighton on Sunday, the 31st.

Some news that was worrisome was that Khadija Shaw’s future with the club was uncertain, with her contract coming to a finish. There was much pursuit from fellow clubs, such as City’s rivals, Chelsea.

With rumours circling, it wasn’t certain whether Shaw wanted to start a new chapter with a different club, considering how much she’s achieved for Manchester City so far, such as being their top goalscorer. But, there was also an option she would want to remain to create further success.

After her 117 goals as a Cityzen, it isn’t surprising that she’d be considered an asset to the club, and why many would want her to stay around.

It has now been told by the player herself, after collecting the player of the year award during City’s after-party. This was an announcement in such a special time, making it even more of an occasion.

Shaw’s excellence, not only for her team but for the WSL and women's football itself, cannot be denied. From making and breaking records, such as scoring over 20 goals in three different seasons and having a total of more than 100 goal involvements, she now looks to keep doing that with Man City, as they attempt to keep adding their names to trophies.

And if they can claim the FA Cup against Brighton this upcoming weekend, it will be quite the end to a truly incredible campaign for the Sky Blues.

“I’m so happy to be at this incredible club for another four years.”

“I’ve always said that Manchester City feels like home - I’ve developed so much as a player and grown so much as a person during my first five years here.”

“Helping the girls win the WSL title is one of the proudest times of my career, and I’m so excited to see what we can do next season and beyond - although there’s one more game to come against Brighton.”

“To the City fans - thank you for always supporting us all. I’m happy to be on this memorable journey with you all and can’t wait to see what we can achieve in the future.”
