Man City star man Antoine Semenyo has been nominated for the English Premier League's Player of the Month award. After a month which saw him score and assist twice, the Ghanian is one of eight EPL players to receive a nomination.
He's up against Hull City's right winger Mohamed Belloumi, Leeds wing back Jaden Bogle and Brighton's talisman Pascal Gross. Gross' teammate Charalampos Kostoulas is also nominated, along with the Liverpool pair of Alexander Isak and Jeremy Jacquet. Kevin Schade of Brentford makes up the list of nominations.
It's interesting with Antoine Semenyo, for me he's not even been Man City's best player, let alone the EPL's best player, this month. He's been terrific since his move to the club in January, but he had started this season pretty quietly by his standards.
That was, of course, until the incredible game against Sunderland. Semenyo starred in the thrilling 5-3 win, scoring twice and getting an assist as the Blues continued their winning streak.
I much prefer Semenyo on the right hand side, generally he doesn't seem to have the same impact coming off the left. However, what a player still and we're hoping that Sunderland performance can allow him to kick on.
Semenyo has withdrawn from international duty due to a leg injury, but with this international break last three weeks (?!), he should be fit for City's huge clash against Liverpool on the 11th October.
Enzo Maresca has received a nomination for Premier League Manager of the Month! Maresca is up against Fabian Hurzeler of Brighton and Liverpool's Andoni Iraola for the award. Surely Maresca wins it, he's won every game his side has played! Including the Manchester derby where we were down to ten men for 70 minutes.
In all honesty, these awards don't mean that much. Still, with the preseason talk of how much Maresca might struggle replacing Pep Guardiola, certainly after the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, it's fantastic recognition of the job Enzo has done so far.
