Manchester City faced rivals Manchester United in the FA League Cup on Wednesday night and were able to achieve a 2-1 victory to progress to the semi-final.

Manchester City played their second Manchester derby in just a span of a few days, first meeting them in the Women's Super League, where they were defeated in a shocking 4-2 result by the Red Devils.

This time, it was the Sky Blues to came out the happier of the two rival sides after claiming a 2-1 win.

Laura Coombs started off the scoring, just 12 minutes to give Man City the early lead.

The lead then vanished as Millie Turner found the equaliser for United, with only 10 minutes remaining of the first half.

But, in the second minute of added time before the break, Lily Murphy got City back into the lead.

The match ended in a vital 2-1 victory for Manchester City. The win means that City advances to the semi-finals of the League Cup, where they will meet Arsenal.

Chelsea vs West ham

The fixtures are set to take place on 5/6 of February. The winners of those two matches will decide who will play this season's FA League final.

If Man City overcome the Gunners, they could meet either Chelsea or West ham in the final. This comes as a great opportunity for the Sky Blues to win a trophy, especially as it seems their hopes of winning the WSL look almost invisible now.

Gareth Taylor reflects on the win.

"It was a real gutsy performance, tonight (Wednesday) we really matched the endeavour which United probably edged us with on Sunday."

"It was more hustle and bustle tonight and finding a way to win, and you have to credit the girls for that."

"We spoke about it before the game, a lot of the time you don't come away from a derby thinking you've had a top-class performance, it's usually effort and endeavour."

Laura Coombs celebrates victory.

"We're so happy. Especially after Sunday, we just wanted to come here, get the win and get to the semis."

"We're so happy with that. We had so much fire coming into today. We knew it might not be a pretty performance but we just wanted to come here and put a few things right that we didn't get right at the weekend."
