Manchester City defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford in a controversial match. There have been lots of talking points from the game. This has resulted in high praise, but also heavy criticism.

3 winners from Man City's impressive win versus Man United

Erling Haaland

Haaland now has nine goals in Manchester derbies. This put him above Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney with goals int he fixture. The Norwegians goalscoring record is truly sensational, with six in six this season. The goal against the Red Devils will boost Haaland's confidence even more, and he will be licking his lips at the chances to score more in fixtures to come.

Enzo Maresca

Maresca had big boots to fill when he took over from Pep Guardiola. This result is the Italian's first big win as City manager. He had lost the Community Shield to Arsenal, and then beat teams that he was expected to defeat so far this season. The win over United will have got City fans onside.

Elliot Anderson

Anderson had a difficult task after Phil Foden was sent off. However, the former Nottingham Forest midfielder controlled the middle of the park excellently. He kept Bruno Fernandes quiet, which was crucial to City winning the game. City needs a strong midfield after losing Rodri over the summer, and Anderson has stepped up to the plate.

Phil Foden

Foden took the bait from Fernandes' kick out at him, and the City player lunged with both feet at the United player. It was a petulant reaction from Foden, who should know better now that he is 26. Manchester derbies are often decided by which players can keep their heads. Fortunately for Foden, City still won the game. However, the City midfielder will still serve a three-match ban for his red card.

VAR

VAR had another shocker as it still gave Haaland's goal despite Enzo Fernandez being in an offside position. It had also looked like Haaland was offside too, but there was no transparency in the drawing of the lines on the broadcast. This is another controversial moment for VAR, which has come under immense criticism since it was introduced in the Premier League.

Michael Carrick

Failing to get his side to get the result against 10-men was disappoiting for Carrick. This will put more pressure on the United manager, especially after their surprise defeat to Hull City on the opening day of the campaign.
