Trent Alexander-Arnold believes in his Liverpool team’s ability to compete with Manchester City and challenge for the English Premier League title.

Manchester City held the English Premier League title last season, and Liverpool went through a difficult season as they finished the season in fifth place.

Manchester City now leads the standings, one point ahead of Liverpool, and the two teams will meet tomorrow, Saturday, in the Premier League.

Arnold said in statements published by the British newspaper “The Independent”: “Our goal as a team is to win the league, and that is the goal again this season. Our ambition is to be as successful as possible and to exploit the potential that we have as a team and as a club.”

He added: “At the beginning of last season, the same thing was as at the beginning of this season. Our ambition was to win the league. We were not good enough to come close to achieving that last year, and this is what we needed to correct this year.”

Arnold continued: “Last season, there were a lot of us who never reached the levels we expected and demanded of each other; in the end, that’s how you end up fifth. Last season wasn’t good enough.”

He pointed out: “In three seasons in which we were supposed to win the league had it not been for Manchester City, we won one title, but we were close to that in two other seasons. You feel what you know you are capable of doing.”

He continued: “Looking around the dressing room, looking at the players we have, the team, the spirit, and the vitality surrounding the team, this challenge for the league is something we feel can be achieved. If that were not the case, I would be here to say, I want to get back to the top four.”

Arnold confirmed: “Because frankly, there is nothing wrong with that for this team, a team that finished the season outside the Champions League qualification positions. There is a rebuilding process underway, signing new players and leaving many senior players, and it would be very normal to say, “Get back to the top four and push from there.”

Regarding the competition for the English Premier League title, he stated: “This is where our eyes are directed, and if that does not happen, we have to blame ourselves. At the moment, we have put ourselves in a good position, and we have built a wonderful foundation that is only related to consistency. The most difficult thing in football is saying. We are constantly winning games, but we have shown that we are more than capable of that.”

He stressed: “I think players who have experience achieving success with the club all understand what it takes and what is needed to even challenge a team like Manchester City.”

The Liverpool player finished off by saying: “It was about delivering this message as quickly as possible to the new and young players. We need good performances from everyone, and if we get players who play well throughout the season, this will bring us closer to the top of the standings.”
