Manchester City played their second group game of this season’s FA League Cup, where they met Liverpool in a seven goal thriller.

Man City started their Conti Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over Everton, while Liverpool came out of their game against Leicester as the losing side.

It was City who started the goalscoring of the night as Filippa Angeldahl found the back of the net 33 minutes into the game. But right before half-time, Liverpool equalised through Gemma Bonner.

At the 47th minute, Flint made it 2-1 in favour of Liverpool as a poor defensive mistake from the Cityzens but Jess Park levelled the scoreline just a minute later.

From the 70th minute, it was all Chloe Kelly; as she struck twice in less than 15 minutes, giving City a 4-2 lead. While Enderby scored in the 90th minute, there was nothing else Liverpool could do to secure some points; therefore ending in a 4-3 win for City.

Gareth Taylor & Chloe Kelly full-time comments

Manager Gareth Taylor expressed praise for his squad but also mentioned how he knows improvement is needed, ” Full credit to the girls, we made a lot of changes tonight and at times we showed our class. Like I’ve said, there are bits we need to improve on for sure, but we deserve great credit.”

Double goal scorer Chloe Kelly shared her thoughts after the exciting 90 minutes, saying “It was a great display from the girls tonight. We know Liverpool are a tough side, last season we dropped points against them in the League. It’s always important to bounce back from a loss, especially after we were the better side against Arsenal. But to bounce back here is really important for the weekend.”

Next up for the Cityzens ladies are Brighton & Hove Albion, this coming Sunday at 13:00 (UK), where City will aim to close the gap between themselves and Chelsea.
