The 2023 edition of the highly anticipated Ballon d’Or ceremony has arrived, with 11 Manchester City players all included in tonight’s categories.
The current holders of this prestigious award are Karim Benzema for the men’s and Alexia Putellas for the women’s.
Kevin De Bruyne finished in the top three last year, while Ederson also was also on third for the Yashin trophy.
All of the Man City players nominated
Ballon d’Or Men’s:
Erling Haaland – Norway.
Kevin De Bruyne – Belgium.
Julian Alvarez – Argentina.
Bernardo Silva – Portugal.
Rodri – Spain.
Ruben Dias – Portugal.
Josko Gvardiol – Croatia.
Ballon d’Or women’s :
Yui Hasegawa – Japan.
Jill Roord – Netherlands.
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw – Jamaica.
Yashin trophy:
Ederson – Brazil
An incredibly honourable achievement for Manchester City to have so many of their talented players selected on the list ahead of tonight.
It is disappointing for the Citizens, especially Erling Haaland, as their likeability of taking home this year’s Ballon d’Or is very low due to Lionel Messi’s stellar World Cup campaign, which will definitely contribute to him picking up this award.
Surely, we’ll see Haaland on second spot, and hopefully, Ederson could be on the receiving end of the Yashin trophy.
As for the City women, there are three players in contention for the award: Shaw, Hasegawa, and Roord. Though, it is Barcelona and Spain star Aitana Bonmati who is currently the favourite.
Good luck to all the Man City players, and congratulations on your nominations.
