Manchester City added another three points to their Champions League group table after they achieved a 3-1 victory over Young Boys on Wednesday evening.
Getting their third 3-1 consecutive win of the UCL season, City are now in a prime position for qualification. While Erling Haaland scored a brace to get his first goal of the European 23/24 campaign, it was Manuel Akanji who got City off the mark at the start of the second half.
Akanji then spoke with the Man City official website, where he discussed his team’s performance, “We had a lot of chances, we could have scored three/ four goals in the first half, we didn’t, which gave the other team hope. We went 1-0 up, then shortly after, it was 1-1. It was a little easy, but we reacted. I’m happy we got the three points.”
Akanji also spoke about City’s potentially booking their spot in the next round before matchday six, “If we manage to win the next two, then it looks good, but you never know what can happen, but 12 points would be good for the next round.”
Manchester City will now move back on to the Premier League, with the Manchester Derby upcoming in a few days; Akanji then told how they, with the game approaching, “The focus was on today, now we recover and the focus will go on the weekend. It will be a big game; it will be tough. But I trust the guys, and I think we will get the three points again.”
City fans will certainly hope they do, Akanji!
