Manchester City got an astounding win over Bristol City a few days ago and have gone to the top of the WSL table. Jill Roord and Khadija Shaw both bagged themselves a brace each, but Laia Aleixandri was the other player who got a goal to add to the 5-0 scoreline.

Laia reflected on her goal on Sunday afternoon, which was also her first goal since joining Man City last year, “I feel very happy to score my fist with this team and also the way that we won this game, so I’m very happy.”

The 23-year-old then moved on to discuss her team’s performance, “Clean sheets are very important to us; I think it’s a very good way to win matches and to achieve our goal, which is to keep clean sheets. I think the season so far has been good. We’re trying to focus on match-by-match and trying to win all the matches, so I think it’s important to have this mentality going forward.”

The defender has made a total of 29 appearances for Manchester City thus far and now has added a goal to her name.

She was the second player to score against Bristol on Sunday after new signing Jill Roord got the celebrations underway, with Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw being the third name to carry on the goalscoring.

Mary Fowler, who has recently been announced as one of the Golden Girl Award nominees, was another player to achieve something during the 5-0 win, as she claimed double assists, providing for both Roord and Shaw.

Manchester City next meet Leicester City for another WSL task, which City go into as the leaders of the League. The two sides will also face each other during their FA League Cup group stage next month.

The City vs Leicester game will be this Saturday, 21st October, at 17:15 (UK), and it will also be their final game of this month.
