Manchester City have announced their submitted squad for the 23/24 UEFA Champions League Group Stage, which is scheduled to begin on the 19th/20th September.

Here is the official list of the 21 players chosen by Manchester City to defend their European champions crown.

Goalkeepers

  1. Ederson
  2. Stefan Ortega Moreno
  3. Scott Carson

Defenders

  1. Manuel Akanji
  2. Nathan Ake
  3. Ruben Dias
  4. Josko Gvardiol
  5. John Stones
  6. Kyle Walker
  7. Sergio Gomez

Midfielders

  1. Mateo Kovacic
  2. Rodri
  3. Kalvin Phillips
  4. Kevin De Bruyne
  5. Jeremy Doku
  6. Jack Grealish
  7. Phil Foden
  8. Bernardo Silva
  9. Matheus Nunes

Forwards

  1. Julian Alverez
  2. Erling Haaland

Not any surprises here; the squad that would be assumed to represent Man City is the one that has been named.

Despite De Bruyne’s gametime-preventing injury, he is still placed among his fellow teammates for the upcoming Group Stage matches. Fans, for sure, will hope to see him involved in at least one of the six games.

Jeremy Doku, Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic, and Matheus Nunes are all City’s new squad additions. Man City didn’t have a very busy transfer window when it came to bringing in new personnel, but a very small group (and I mean small) of people would criticize this, as City is probably the last team that would need to have new names brought in.

But the ones that they did bring in were definitely smart decisions from the club; Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku are considered two of some of the biggest upcoming talents, midfield replacement was crucial due to the absence of De Bruyne hence Nunes, and Mateo Kovacic, has been a prominent figure in the last few seasons, justifying City’s interest.

The Man City players are currently partaking in international football but will return in a few weeks’ time.

Man City will start their UCL campaign on the 19th September, against Red Star Belgrade.
