Top Premier League star leaves the door open for a move to Manchester City
With uncertainty surrounding Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan’s future at the club, manager Pep Guardiola will be forced to look for options if the German leaves. One such player who is considering his options and has kept the door open to joining Manchester City is Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic. Having the experience of five Premier League campaigns under his belt, Kovacic is an experienced player and can be handy for Manchester City when they face new challenges next season.
During an interaction with the media, Kovacic discussed his club football future. The 29-year-old player acknowledged the bad season he had at Chelsea this year. However, he also mentioned that for now, his focus is in the national team. Kovacic said:
"“I have one more year with Chelsea, this season was very bad. Everything is going towards the fact that after five good years I will change, but in football anything can happen. Right now, I’m focused on Croatia and the Nations League.”"
Furthermore, Kovacic also discussed his transfer links with Manchester City. Expressing his appreciation for City, he mentioned that the club deserve to be in the Champions League final. However, he ended the media interaction by describing his love for Chelsea. Kovacic said:
"“Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say. The summer is long, we’ll see what happens. Chelsea is phenomenal for me. I love the city and the fans, they love me, I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. We’ll see what happens.”"

On June 9th, 2023, Manchester City are set to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul. While Inter has previously won the competition, a win on June 10th can help City secure their first-ever Champions League crown. With a host of players available at his disposal, it will be interesting to see if Guardiola can lead City to glory in Europe.
