What a difference a few months make. In January 2023, Manchester City were unexpectedly eliminated by Southampton in the Carabao Cup’s Quarter-finals. Manchester City would also face Arsenal in the FA Cup’s third round. Finally, the Sky Blues were five points behind the English Premier League table.

Four months later, a lot has changed. While the Sky Blue were eliminated from the Carabao Cup, they have marched past stiff opposition in the FA Cup. Having defeated the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, MCFC have qualified for the FA Cup Final for the first time since 2019. They will face cross-town rivals Manchester United.

Meanwhile, the Sky Blues made up a lot of ground in the league. In April 2023, the Gunners were eight points clear of the Sky Blues. At the time, it seemed as if Arsenal would run away with the league. But poor results against Liverpool, West Ham, and Southampton saw the Gunners drop six points and it presented the Sky Blues with an opportunity to pounce.

Since April 2023, Pep Guardiola and his men have been unstoppable. They overcame their opponents in the league with pizzazz, and eventually, they found themselves at the top of the table. Arsenal had done so well throughout the season, but when it mattered most, the Gunners could not overcome the final hurdle. Nottingham Forest’s shocking victory against Arsenal all but confirmed their fate.

Manchester City won their third consecutive Premier League title this season

Manchester City have now won their third successive title, and their fifth title in six seasons under Guardiola. But the season is not over. Having won the 2022/23 EPL, Manchester City will now focus their attention on the FA Cup Final on June 3. They will then play in their second-ever Champions League final after overcoming RB Leipzig, Bayern München, and Real Madrid. Manchester City will face Internazionale on June 10.

Retaining the EPL title with three matches to spare has also given the Sky Blues an opportunity. While they will surely want to perform well in their final home match of the 2022/23 season, Guardiola will also have the FA Cup Final and Champions League Final on his mind. He will likely rotate his squad in the coming days and seek to solidify his final starting XI for the two cup finals.

Manchester City have done the hard work, and it is paying off. Having now won the EPL title, and with the upcoming FA Cup and Champions League finals on their minds, the treble is undoubtedly on. How will Manchester City finish this season?
