It would only take a year for the two sides to meet again and it seems like City were willing to make this one just as sweet as their 3-2 victory the year prior but with way more drama.

Manchester City needed a spark, and points, badly. Heading into matchday 5, City had only secured a total of 2 points and needed a win against an insanely stacked and in-form Bayern team if they wished to continue their European journey.

It seemed that City were on their way to a comfortable victory. Medhi Benatia was shown a red card due to a foul that resulted in a penalty, which Sergio Agüero coolly slotted away.

However, this Bayern team, led by Pep Guardiola, was not going to give up that easily and would actually turn the game around before half-time.

With only 10 minutes to go, it appeared that City’s European run would end very prematurely as Bayern defended with extreme tenacity.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man as Agüero would score twice, once in the 85th and another in the 90+1 minute of stoppage time, to complete the unlikely comeback and give City another day to live.

They would eventually beat Roma 2-0 away from home in the following game to secure their place in the next round but that would not have been possible without the most satisfying and important win against Bayern Munich.
