Jordan Pickford

Let himself down in the Iranian win as could have saved their first goal. His distribution was good and that is likely to save him. Can’t see Southgate dropping him providing he’s fit throughout the tournament.

Kieran Trippier

Had an impressive game against Iran with his passing being slick and impressive in aiding the attack. Supported Saka well going down the right. Could see Kyle Walker come on in his place for some minutes for fitness if the game is won early.

John Stones

England’s best defender has to start.

Eric Dier

Harry Maguire came off with an illness although trained today. Southgate has claimed “it would be a brave decision to leave him out of the starting line-up!”, so be brave Gareth, be brave!

The extent of that illness is unclear and we predict Eric Dier will be the next man in line if Maguire is not declared fit

Luke Shaw

The full-back is the only option should Trippier start at right back.
