The most goals in a Premier League season

A good place to start will be the most games scored in a 38-game domestic season with the current leader being Mohammed Salah of Liverpool. He scored 32 goals in the 2017-18 season – Haaland only has to score 19 more times in 30 appearances to beat that, and there are good odds that he will doing so on his current record. He could even eclipse it by the time of the World Cup.

Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole shared the golden boot with 34 goals in the 1994/95 season, however that campaign was a 22-team season with 42 games played. Can it count? Be good to be the outright leader

Will he beat it: Yes, I can see him scoring 40-plus goals and with the record he’s on currently then why not.

Most goals in a single season

Lionel Messi has been the greatest for some time and there was no argument back in 2011/12 when he scored 50 La Liga goals, 14 Champions League goals: seventy-three goals scored in total in 60 games.

Those records could be under threat as Haaland currently possesses a slightly greater goals-to-game ratio, with Pep Guardiola overseeing that season and player management is likely to be similar for their greatest star.

However, the issue could be rotation. Barcelona was rarely rotated and the starting XI was very rarely changed due to the level of difference between the subs and reserves. City has that depth in quality and the signing of Julian Alvarez, will likely determine that Haaland will not play, or start, in the early FA Cup and Carabao Cup games.

Will he beat it: The heart says yes, but my head is telling me no. Mainly as I can’t see this form and goalscoring pattern being consistent throughout the season. The Premier League is also much more competitive.

Most hat-tricks in a Premier League season

Erling Haaland may have to buy a house just to store his Premier League hat-trick balls in by the time he has finished his career with Manchester City. Three so far, all consecutive home hat-tricks, will leave Alan Shearer sweating in the Match of the Day chair as his five hat-tricks currently sit top in a single season.

The most in the Premier League belongs to Sergio Aguero, and I can certainly see the Norwegian going one better by the time he ventures out of England and into a different league. Can’t see him achieving that feat this year, but who knows.

Will he beat it: Yes, predicting he will get seven this season, all at the Etihad.

The most goals in a single English domestic season

Haaland’s current rate of scoring would see him end on 66 league goals. The question is will he be available to sustain that rate?

If he was then the record of Dixie Dean’s longstanding record will be beaten by six goals. Dixie Dean scored 60 goals in 39 First Division games for Everton in 1927-28 while Aston Villa’s Tom Waring is second with 49 goals in 1930-31.

Will he beat it: Crazy to think I’m even considering this but no he won’t beat the record.

Most consecutive goals in a Premier League season

We are all old enough to remember Jamie Vardy’s impressive feat that took Leicester City to the Premier League title in 2015/16, scoring 13 goals in eleven consecutive games. That record will surely be under threat as Haaland is on six consecutive scoring games.

Goals against Southampton, Liverpool, Brighton, Leicester City, Fulham and Brentford will see the record broken prior to the World Cup. Will need to stay fit and his teammates producing to keep him on track to beat it.

Will he beat it: If Vardy is precious about records, then he is likely to be sweating. And we are not talking about the energy drink life or his missus’ gossiping addiction. Yes, he will get that record.

City’s most goals in a single season

Tommy Johnson’s 38 goals in 1928-29 remains the City record for a player in one season in all competitions, standing for 94 years to date.

He currently sits on 17 and is nearly half the way there.

Will he beat it: Yes, based on the other predictions he will.

It is crazy to think many were saying he couldn’t ‘do it’ in a proper league and were comparing him to Darwin Nunez. It shouldn’t had been considered.

Haaland breaks nets, women’s hearts and now goalscoring records.
