Ederson 7

Kept his clean sheet, didn’t have much to do and was lucky after a slight booboo saw him release the ball straight to a Sevilla player – the second time this has happened. Quiet for the most part.

Cancelo 8

Great to see him back on the right. Not much needed defensively but worked hard to maintain control of Sevilla counterattacks. As always, very creative and got himself an assist. Some wild shots off target, but that’s just Joao.

Akanji 7

Fantastic debut for the new blue. Settled well, some excellent line breaking passes, comfortable on the ball and made some crucial interceptions in the second half. He feels like one of us already.

Dias 8

Kept his clean sheet, we know how important this is to him. But it’s not the only sheet he saw; getting himself on the scoresheet with a 91st minute goal from a Cancelo cross to put City four in the clear.

Gomez 7

His first start, and is a classic City fullback. Good defensively, but more exciting when involved in the attack. Unlucky not to get himself an assist in the second half after putting in a great cross to Haaland.

Rodri 7

Dominated midfield and pushed forward to help overload the deep Sevilla defence.

De Bruyne 9

A stunning cross right behind the defence and past the keeper into Haaland for the first goal – a very exciting partnership forming. By far the best passer of the ball in football right now, a constant threat.

Bernardo 7

All over the place, as always. The Portuguese Duracell controlled the tempo, controlled the opposition and did his job quietly.

Grealish 7

Came off after an hour having just returned from injury, looked a little slow in the opening minutes but eased once getting onto the ball. Creative, dangerous and linking up well.

Foden 9

My MotM. Involved in everything that was dangerous to Sevilla. Involved in the first three goals; creating the first, scoring the second and creating the third.

Taking on players, his passing on show and tracking back for defensive work. Brought off early, I imagine he starts against Spurs. He’s one of our own!

Haaland 9

Another two for the Nordic Meat Shield. Two very different goals. Always in where the action is. His strength, his speed, his goals – just a show off isn’t he?

Subs used: Gundogan, Palmer, Alvarez, Phillips and Mahrez.

Next. Reflections on a win in Seville. dark

The tempo changed with the introduction of the substitutes, understandably, the game was won. I think the link up between De Bruyne, Foden and Haaland is going to be electric – the three of them are exciting.
