Aston Villa vs. Manchester City: player ratings
By Laura Graves
Ederson 6
Made one good save, and wasn’t able to do much for the equaliser.
Walker 5
Shoulda, woulda, coulda squared it to Haaland early on. A little sloppy, though Pep confirms he was struggling with an injury.
Stones 6
Didn’t do much wrong, though could have done better for the equaliser. Collectively poor defending.
Dias 6
Looked uncomfortable at times and lacked the aggression we would like to see. Again, should have done more to prevent the equaliser.
Cancelo 6
Not great defensively, and not his usual self going forward either. He switched off for Baileys goal.
Rodri 6
Managed to control the midfield for the most part, but his sloppy clearance led to a goal scoring opportunity for Villa and they took full advantage.
Gundogan 6
Excellent control in the first half, looked tired towards the end and this led to some opportunities for Villa to counter attack.

De Bruyne 7
Not his best game by far, but even during these moments he’s able to create goals and cause havoc for the oppositions defence. Beautifully crafted cross to assist Haalands goal.
Bernardo 6
Not as much obvious influence in the game, but his energy helped to control the opposition – seen when he was hooked.
Foden 6
It just wasn’t working for him. Though got into some good positions and created to dangerous chances.
Haaland 7
Kept himself in all the right places, linking up well around the box and scored when the opportunity arose.
Subs:
Mahrez 5
Came on for Bernardo in the 73rd minute. Didn’t do enough defensively, though involved in some half-chances.
Ake 6
Came on for an injured Walker on 80 minutes. Didn’t put a foot wrong, though a typical performance from someone coming on the pitch in the 80th minute – off the tempo.
