Manchester City’s transfer business in the last three years cannot be faulted with some great additions added year on year.

After selling Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Raheem Sterling and losing Fernandinho, the squad looks thin in certain areas with Pep Guardiola relying on youth for backup.

You could say City are few injuries away from experiencing a Liverpool, particularly after Nathan Ake sustained an injury against Newcastle, Jack Grealish missing from the squad and Aymeric Laporte is yet to feature this season.

Now, I won’t want to get into the Jurgen Klopp list of excuses, however, we could be a couple of long-term injuries away from losing the grip on the title and handing it to our closest challenges, currently Arsenal.

Surely not this early in the season. No!

I’m just upping the drama for the purpose of this article but we just never know in the Premier League.

We know quality does not come cheap, and talking about English talent certainly bumps up the price, so I could be in the clouds when I make these suggestions that City should target two players from a title rival – Chelsea.

The two players in question will be squad players and whether they will be happy with those positions are up for debate, however, they will certainly be at the level required to fulfil a backup position for an attacking central midfielder and right winger. Let’s see who they are.
