Today is the day when the selection for your final Fantasy Premier League must be finalised ahead of Gameweek 1.

Manchester City fans will have to wait until Super Sunday to see if their favourite selections will bring in their points as Manchester City travel to West Ham in the last game of the gameweek.

The first game of the season comes as Crystal Palace entertain Arsenal with kick-off scheduled at 20:00 BST with the deadline for FPL teams coming in 90 minutes before kick-off.

Statistics show a number of favourite selections by FPL managers but it is a former City player who is the most selected in the game. Once a blue, always a blue as they say!

Gabriel Jesus has been chosen by 76.4% of the finalised teams (including myself) as his value of £8 million represents a snip of what you are going to get from the Brazilian, now being the main man at a club that will not favour rotation.

Many people are predicting City’s former number nine to be the signing of the season and bring a different threat to Arsenal this year as they challenge for the top four, potentially going one step further and challenge City and Liverpool’s dominance (I don’t believe it either!).

After scoring 120 points last season, that number is expected to be much higher come the end of the campaign.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah are next in the selection with 59.7% and 61.7% respectively, with the majority picking those two for their points totals achieved last season.

For Manchester City players, selection seems hard to come by with only two players receiving over 35% from ‘managers’ – Joao Cancelo and Erling Haaland are the two that have been the most selected players.

The Portuguese defender is City’s highest selection given that only two full-backs are in City’s squad and he is the favourite to start consistently on the left. His goals and assist record are also up there with TAA and Andy Robertson in the defender ranks, and add that to the number of clean sheets City will achieve.

That is quite a surprise given that City is the expected team to go and win the league this year. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne (14.8%), Jack Grealish (4.3%), Ruben Dias (11.8%) and Ederson (16%) were all quite lowly picked for teams.

Many of those players represent good value and a solid selection to score over 150 points, providing they remain fit throughout the season.

Do fans outside the Etihad not like City players or is Pep Guardiola’s frequent rotation policies scary for fantasy players once the team sheet is announced? Probably the latter, but who cares?

I for one, know that my City selections will bring me points. I have gone for Cancelo, Grealish and Haaland to bring me the points this gameweek.
