“There are teams you can’t say no to” – were the exact words of Brighton defender Marc Cucurella when he was asked directly about the transfer rumours linking him to Manchester City.

After securing the signature of the likes of Erlind Haaland and Julian Alvarez, City is now prowling for the transfer market for a left-back. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo have impressed so far in that position but for neither of them, it is a natural one. Pep Guardiola will be looking to sign a natural left-back in the coming days and end the selection dilemma in the concerned position.

Although the Brighton left-back denied having made contact with Pep Guardiola, Cucurella will surely be a one to watch in the transfer market.

The Spanish international who joined the Seagulls last summer from Getafe for £15.4million has produced some sensational displays over the season and this has sparked interest among Manchester City with Pep Guardiola looking to swoop the player as Cucurella meets the requirements of a left-back position at Man City – as reported by Jason Burt of The Telegraph.

As per reports, City values the 23-year-old at around £30million, while Brighton has a contract with the Spaniard for five years but they may need to sell him sooner rather than later due to the increasing value of his price and interest from Premier League clubs.

Speaking to Jijantes, Marc Cucurella dismissed the rumours which stated that he had made contact with Pep Guardiola.

“The goal [at Brighton] was to develop so the big clubs can take notice,” he said

“But if the opportunity arises, you have to take advantage of it. There are teams that you can’t say no to. No sincerely, no [Pep Guardiola has not called]. Of course, there are rumours.

“If people start talking like this about you, it’s a good thing. We’re calm; the most important thing right now is to rest”.

Even if Manchester City makes the move, it won’t be a rushed action as Pep will certainly look to the other options in the market. The potential of the project at Manchester City and the prospect of securing silverware may act as a catalyst to entice Cucurella in joining the City ranks.
