According to a report from Calciomercato, Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva is eyeing a summer move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The Portuguese international’s contract at the Etihad Stadium expires in 2025, with claims that the attacking midfielder wanted to leave the club last summer for a fresh change of scenery. And the big-money arrival of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa had only added to his uncertain future.
However, Bernardo Silva, 27, has enjoyed a stunning turnaround at Manchester City, bagging 10 goals and three assists in 34 games across all formats already this season. He has arguably been the Sky Blues’ best player this campaign, operating with class and poise across the front-line in Pep Guardiola’s fluid system.
The 27-year-old’s contributions has been crucial to the Cityzens’ success in the Premier League as well as in the Champions League. He recently scored a brace in the club’s 5-0 rout of Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 in Portugal, thereby, reaffirming his importance to Pep Guardiola’s side.
Silva, however, is seemingly looking again to end his ties with Manchester City and wants a ‘dream’ move to Real Madrid, adds Calciomercato.
Atletico Madrid were heavily linked with the Portuguese international last year but a move never really looked on the cards. Now, Silva wants a move to Atletico’s cross-town rivals, Real Madrid, who could be in for a potential midfield shake-up, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos both in their 30s and edging closer to the last few years of their contracts.
The ex-AS Monaco man can certainly lead the Los Blancos’ midfield revamp in the summer, but it remains to be seen whether Manchester City would be willing to sell him, especially after he has again become a key cog in Guardiola’s side.
Earlier this month, a report from The Times had claimed Man City were ‘confident’ that Silva will sign a contract extension with the club after holding positive talks with his entourage. However, City’s plans have dealt a big blow following rumours of the Portuguese playmaker eyeing a move to Real Madrid breaking out.
