Manchester City receive major transfer boost in pursuit of Erling Haaland

The Manchester City – Haaland saga has witnessed yet another dramatic turnaround with the Norwegian’s father Alf-Inge Haaland insisting on an Etihad switch in the summer should he leave Borussia Dortmund, as per a report from Football Insider.
Haaland, 21, is arguably the most sought-after striker of his generation. The Norwegian has been an absolute beast in front of the goal ever since he arrived at the Signal Iduna Park making the Bundesliga his own with some astonishing performances.
The 21-year-old has amassed 23 goals and five assists in 20 appearances across all competitions, this season.
With Haaland’s release clause of €75 million clause looking set to be triggered this summer, a host of Elite European clubs are fighting for the Dortmund star’s prized signature.
Manchester City have been widely regarded as one of the favorites to strike a deal with the Norwegian, claims the source.
After Sergio Aguero’s departure to Barcelona on a Bosman last summer, the defending champions haven’t been able to find his successor. Ferran Torres’ leaving midway through the season hasn’t helped their cause either.
The odds are stacked heavily against the Sky Blues with Barcelona and Real Madrid tipped to be the favorites to sign Haaland. Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in the 21-year-old.
However, Manchester City are said to be back in ‘pole position’ to sign Haaland, with the forward’s father believed to have advised his son to join the English giants, further adds the source.
Moreover, a source close to the reigning champions has revealed that the higher officials of the club including Pep Guardiola are understood to be ‘big admirers’ of Haaland.
In my opinion, Haaland seems to be a distant dream to City with the striker rumored to be in favor of a move to Spain. A tussle is expected between the Spanish giants in Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Norwegian’s signature, with the latter touted to touch down the 21-year-old.
Kylian Mbappe’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabeau seems to be a matter of time and that doesn’t help Madrid’s cause as far as Haaland is concerned.
Mbappe and Haaland are regarded to be two of the finest of this generation and it is highly unlikely that both would play for the same side, especially at this stage of their respective careers.
All in all, Barcelona are believed to be the front-runner for Erling Haaland. Barring any last-minute twists, Manchester City are tipped to land on the wrong side of yet another striker saga in consecutive summers.
