Lewandowski is the best striker in the world currently and there are no two ways about it. The Bayern Munich striker is in the final 18 months of his contract, and it is looking increasingly unlikely that he will renew. The Bavarians do want to tie down the 33-year-old but are said to be willing to offer only a 1-year extension to the player, who is seeking a new, 2-year deal.

During his time at Bayern Munich, Lewandowski has shattered multiple records including the one set by German legend, Gerd Muller for greatest number of goals scored in a single season in the Bundesliga (40). There is no doubt that the Polish striker has established himself as one of the deadliest in the box and even at the age of 33, the former Borussia Dortmund man has shown no signs of slowing down.

This season, the 33-year-old has managed to score 23 goals from 20 appearances for the Bavarians in the Bundesliga and is carrying an impressive 9-goal tally from 6 UEFA Champions League outings. While it does seem a bit far-fetched to say that he may break his record this season in the Bundesliga, it is not beyond the Poland international.

Lewandowski is a player who can fit right into Pep Guardiola’s system and with the former Bayern Munich manager already having managed him in the past, it should not be a difficult transition for either of the parties involved. Having said that, City could use their financial muscle to tempt the Bayern Munich star to make the trip to Etihad.

It must be mentioned that in the event Lewandowski fails to renew with Bayern before the start of the next term, he will be placed on the summer market with no shortage of suitors. The rumored market value for the 33-year-old next summer is around £50 million.

Lewandowski is not a long-term fix but is surely a good short-term alternative to Erling Haaland.
