Manchester City to rival Real Madrid for highly-rated Ajax midfiedler
Ryan Gravenberch is being touted as one for the future and Manchester City want to sign him. This comes as per the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
Gravenberch, 19, has been enjoying a fruitful season with Ajax this term, scoring once and assisting twice, playing as a holding midfielder. Having said that, the 19-year-old has already scored 10 times for Ajax and has managed to assist on 11 occasions, from 89 appearances for the Eredivise champions.
The source understands that the Cityzens have joined the race to sign Gravenberch next summer. Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Barcelona are also said to be interested in signing the Dutch international.
City’s interest in signing the holding midfielder is perfectly justified as club legend and veteran Fernandinho is tipped to big goodbye to the Sky Blues at the end of this season.
With that said, Declan Rice has emerged as a potential target for the Cityzens but with West Ham holding firm on their £100 million valuation for the English midfielder, Gravenberch is a cheaper yet effective alternative.
With the Dutch midfielder yet to enter his 20s, he still has a lot of time to develop to unlock his true potential. Personally, I see that happening under Pep Guardiola than under Carlo Ancelotti. Having said that, it is not going to be easy for the Cityzens with the Los Blancos aiming to sign Gravenberch as the potential future replacement for Casemiro.
The Ajax midfielder’s contract is set to expire in 2023 and if he does not decide to renew for pastures new, he will be sold next summer.
With Manchester City expected to go all-out for Erling Haaland next summer, the entire operation to land the Norweigan talent could well cost up to €120 million. This is precisely why City need someone like Gravenberch who is unlikely to be sold for more than €40-50 million.
Moreover, signing Ryan Gravenberch for just €50 million would be a steal.
Manchester City should act on their interest and try to lure the young midfielder to come to Etihad. Having said that, anything could happen as Real Madrid have the financial muscle and the sporting project to compete with Manchester City for the player’s signature.
The Los Blancos are said to be the favorites to sign both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
With the way the next summer window is shaping up, it will be interesting to see who ends up where but for now, where do you see Gravenberch playing in the next season?
Let us know.
