Manchester City target prefers a ‘switch to Etihad’ over PL rivals
Manchester City are in the market for a striker and the reigning Premier League champions have been linked with Erling Haaland and Dusan Vlahovic as their net marquee signing for next summer.
It remains highly unclear if the Cityzens will be able to sign Haaland, as the Norweigan striker is said to prefer a move to Spain over England, with Real Madrid said to be best-positioned to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker.
Moreover, City will be also going up against the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain for Haaland’s signature. With that said, Vlahovic is more or less, a very good and cheaper alternative for Haaland.
Vlahovic has been tipped to make a move this month with Fiorentina ready to listen to offers but the 21-year-old is said to be keen on finishing this season in Florence before deciding on his future. However, that was only until now.
As per a report from La Repubblica, Vlahovic is said to be ‘holding out’ for a move to Manchester City, after Arsenal are understood to have submitted a £50 million bid to sign the striker this month. Tottenham are also said to be interested in signing the prospect.
Arsenal’s interest in signing the Serbian striker has been well known, with the player turning down the possibility to sign for the Gunners last summer as well, with his eye set on UEFA Champions League football.
The source further adds that Vlahovic is in no hurry to decide his future this month itself, further ruling out the possibility of a winter switch for the 21-year-old.
Fiorentina and the striker’s camp hold opposite views as the club is ready to listen to offers for the 21-year-old but there has been no communication between the two regarding a potential transfer. With that said, City are certainly in a strong position to sign Vlahovic, in case their pursuit of Erling Haaland fails.
The source also claims that the Serbian international is also open to joining Juventus, with the former Serie A champions keen on giving his current contract a significant rise.
It is highly possible that pre-transfer talks will begin somewhere around March or April to get ahead in the competition but City’s current priority is Erling Haaland. Outside of Spain, the Sky Blues are said to be the favorites to sign the Norweigan talent, with their financial muscle and recent sporting success coming into play.
