This past summer Manchester City were linked with an unlikely but sensational swoop for former Real Madrid and Juve striker, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Manchester United striker was close to joining City for the ongoing season, with numerous talks taking place between the player and the Cityzens. Having said that, the 36-year-old made a sensational return to cross-town rivals instead.

City were pursuing the signature of Harry Kane but Tottenham were firm on their stance of not wanting to part ways with the Englishman. That being said, in a last-ditch attempt to land a proper number nine, the reigning Premier League champions decided to explore the possibility of signing Ronaldo.

While the Cityzens were not keen on paying any fee to Juve to acquire the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, they were pretty much interested in having him as a part of their plans for the ongoing season.

As per reports, the talks were so progressed that Ronaldo’s Juve teammates were convinced that he was going to join City but it is understood that Pep Guardiola’s rotational policy was a dead-end for the talks to progress.

Pep Guardiola is known to rotate his squad on a regular basis and with so much talent and dynamism in the City ranks, Ronaldo would have found it difficult to nail down his spot in Guardiola’s starting XI.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss’ gameplay revolves around high-press and positional play, something that Ronaldo is not accustomed to. Moreover, with the likes of Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez chipping in with goals, it would have been difficult for the 5-time Ballan d’Or winner to secure a permanent spot in the XI.

Therefore, the 36-year-old decided to join Manchester United instead and has made 18 appearances for the former Premier League champions this season in the PL, the source concludes.
