According to reports, Manchester City have suffered another transfer blow with AC Milan full-back Theo Hernandez set to extend his contract with the former Serie A champions with negotiations reportedly having reached the final stages.

The Cityzens have been previously linked with the French defender, but he appears to stay put with the Italian giants, The Mirror understands.

Theo, 24, has been progressed into one of the most influential attacking full-backs ever since he debuted for the Italian outfit for the first time in 2019. The Frenchman has managed to score 4 goals and lay 5 of them from 18 appearances in the ongoing season. Theo has been crucial in AC Milan occupying the second spot in the Serie A charts with a mere 2 points separating Milan league leaders and rivals Inter.

The 24-year-old has been linked to several elite clubs including the Premier League duo of Manchester City and Chelsea alongside the likes of Paris Saint Germain, the source further adds. However, Theo seems to be fully committed to the Milan giants as his contract extension seems to be just a matter of time.

In a recent interview with The Athletic (h/t Fabrizio Romano), regarding his future at the San Siro, Theo Hernandez admitted that

"“I’m very happy at Milan, we are discussing the renewal of my contract and things are going very well.”"

Manchester City have been in pursuit of left-backs lately with Pep Guardiola planning to shift Joao Cancelo, who emerged as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League to a permanent right-back position. This move does make sense with Kyle Walker becoming injury-prone off late.

With that said, the chances of Theo Hernandez making it to the Etihad are looking bleak and Manchester City may have to continue with their hunt for a premium left-back to accompany the likes of Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, and Aymeric Laporte in what is one of the most formidable backlines in Europe.
