Both teams fail to break the deadlock; Goalless first half at the Etihad

Manchester City and Chelsea have performed exceptionally well in their final third this term. However, both sides started slowly at the Etihad and were not up to the mark in the initial stages of the game.

Jack Grealish was handed an opening in the attacking half after a mistake from Mateo Kovacic but was unable to make the most of it as he saw his shot being blocked by the Chelsea no.1.

An engaging second half for the hosts; Blues fail to breach the City backline

The second half of the game started on a vibrant note as Romelu Lukaku created some decent attacking chances in the final third. The likes of Pulisic, Marcos Alonso, and Kovacic did try to unsettle the hosts as they made some good runs in the City box, but were not able to put the ball back into the net.

With only 20 minutes left in hand, Kevin De Bruyne decided to break the shackles for the Sky Blues as he struck a clean shot outside the edge of the box into the right bottom corner of the net to give City a much needed 1-0 lead over the visitors.

After the full-time whistle, the Citizens were able to seal all three points from this home fixture, ensuring that they move 13 points clear at the top with  Chelsea remaining second with 43 points.
