Manchester City ‘approach’ the family of Bayern ace over potential move
According to L’Equipe (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester City continue to battle with Chelsea for the signing of Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman.
Manchester City have no shortage of wide players and it’s a position they really don’t need to be bothered at all. The Sky Blues broke the British transfer fee record to sign playmaker Jack Grealish from Aston Villa last summer, paying £100m to the Midlands club.
Jack Grealish’s signing bolstered the Cityzens’ wide department that already consisted of players such as Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez this campaign.
In addition, Gabriel Jesus has relished playing in a new position off the wide right, and with Cole Palmer breaking into the senior Manchester City squad this term, Pep Guardiola has enough depth as far as the wing unit is concerned.
However, as per L’Equipe (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester City have made attempts to prise Kingsley Coman away from Bayern Munich.
The French international, 25, has recently entered the final 18 months of his contract and the Bavarians would loathe losing him on a free transfer in 2023, as happened when David Alaba ran down his contract and joined Real Madrid for free last year.
Man City and Pep Guardiola have been alerted to Coman’s contract situation at the Allianz Arena. They have ‘approached’ the Bayern star’s family in ‘recent months’ to understand the possibility of a summer move, the report adds. (h/t Sport Witness) Chelsea also remain interested in the French winger and are believed to have ‘made an offer’ to sign him.
Nonetheless, the report (h/t Sport Witness) further states that Coman is expected to pen a contract extension with Bayern Munich in the next few days, and the renewal has ‘never felt so close’.
Guardiola knows Coman well having managed him at Bayern and could have been decisive in Man City’s attempts to lure the player away from Bayern. But as things stand, the 25-year-old is close to committing his long-term future with the Bavarian giants.
