Manchester City to pip Chelsea and Manchester United in race to sign Bundesliga star
Manchester City have been interested in Erling Haaland for quite some time now. Man City are among the long list of clubs interested in signing the Norweigan talent.
Haaland, 21, has been absolutely sensational for Dortmund, since completing his move to the Schwarz Gelben in the winter of 2019. The striker has made 76 appearances for the former Bundesliga champions and has scored 76 goals while assisting on 21 occasions. With a G/A of 97 from 76 appearances, it is clear why City are interested in him.
Man City though, are not alone in the race to sign the prospect as the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested in signing the striker as well.
Sky Sports understands that City are the favorites if at all Haaland decides to switch to the Premier League. There have been numerous reports in recent times suggesting that the Dortmund talisman prefers a move to Spain over England. With that said, Real Madrid are unlikely to sign both Mbappe and Haaland, despite having the funds to do so. Barcelona will be pushing hard to bring Haaland to Camp Nou but it remains to be seen if they can manage to gather the funds required for the operation.
"“Pep Guardiola is a very demanding manager, you have to play the Pep Guardiola way, and do what he wants you to do.”“As far as Haaland is concerned, it would not be the easy option to go to Manchester City. Even though he would almost be guaranteed success if he was to go there.”“I think it’s going to be difficult for him to say no to Pep Guardiola.”Source: Sky Sports"
When it comes to City’s case, it will be ‘difficult for him to say no to Pep Guardiola’. City are one of the favorites to land the Norweigan talent and will be turning to the player’s father and former City player Alfe-Inge to convince Erling to sign up for City. With that said, it will ultimately boil down to who presents the better sporting and economic project.
As we get closer to the summer window, when the player’s £64 million release clause will be activated, the race to sign him will only get intense.
Borussia Dortmund are also keen on extending the 21-year-old’s current contract and are facing a stiff race against time.
City have been looking for an out-and-out striker since the start of last season and are looking to go all-out for Haaland. It remains to be seen if they can beat the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona to sign the 21-year-old.
