Phil Foden has seen his stocks climb the ladder and the Englishman has become one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted players. In spite of the recent controversies, Foden remains an integral part of the Manchester City XI and it would be a great surprise if the youngster was pushed down the pecking order.

Foden has missed the Cityzens‘ last two fixtures owing to COVID-19 and will be back for the all-important clash against Chelsea later this week. Having said that, City are looking to offer the 21-year-old a new contract that would be reflective of the prospect’s current run of performances.

This season, Foden has managed 5 goals and 3 assists from 13 Premier League appearances and has managed to become one of Pep’s go-to men.

Speaking on his ‘Here We Go podcast’, Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that only minor details are remaining for the Cityzens to finalize the contract and make an official announcement.

With that said, this past October it came to light that City and Foden had reached an agreement over a new contract that would expire in 2027. However, there was no official announcement on the part of the reigning Premier League champions and it was only a ‘verbal agreement’ that both the parties reached.

The reliable transfer guru claimed that City are looking to close down the contract in the coming days and weeks. It is only a matter of ‘few clauses’ and City have everything in place and are just trying to finalize a few ‘details’.

Foden will sign a new contract with the Cityzens, as per Romano and it need not be a matter of worry for the fans.

It is understood that the two parties wanted to close the negotiations before the end of last year but that could not happen and the Sky Blues will focus on making an official announcement about the same, soon.
