Manchester City are in a five-way Premier League battle for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen star, Patrik Schick, reports 90min.
Patrik Schick, 25, is enjoying a sensational season with Bayer Leverkusen as he is the second-highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga, behind Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski. The Czech Republic star has netted 16 goals in 14 games, three more than Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
Not to forget, Patrik Schick had starred in Euro 2020 earlier in the summer, where he finished as joint-top scorer alongside Manchester United and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo with five goals. He was even nominated for the Puskas Award for his sensational halfway line lob against Scotland in the group stages.
Schick’s performances for Bayer Leverkusen haven’t gone unnoticed, with Everton, Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham also keeping tabs on him for months, 90min adds. However, Bayer are in no rush to sell their star asset in the January transfer window as they don’t want to jeopardize a top-three finish in the Bundesliga as well as a return to the elite Champions League.
The report states the Czech Republic international, who has a contract at Bay Arena until 2025, could cost upwards of £50million next summer.
Manchester City are likely to be in need of a centre-forward following the departure of Ferran Torres to Barcelona earlier this week. Raheem Sterling’s future at the Etihad Stadium still needs resolving, despite his extended run in the team of late, while Riyad Mahrez has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Pep Guardiola has already stated that Manchester City won’t buy a striker in the winter window as he feels there are enough attacking options in the squad to compete on all fronts. If that is the case, then indeed he is right, with the Sky Blues having not faced problems scoring goals so far this season.
Coming back to Patrik Schick, he could be a smart addition to Man City’s ranks. A technically gifted striker like him is exactly what City needs to enhance their attack ahead of next season.
