The situation at Barcelona is dire and the club is in the middle of a complete revamp. With Xavi taking over the reins at Camp Nou recently, the former midfielder has decided which players he wants to keep and to sell. This is where Manchester City comes into the equation.

The likes of Frenkie De Jong and Sergino Dest have been linked with an exit from Barca and both these players have been tipped to move to either City or Bayern Munich. With numerous reports indicating that Xavi wants to keep his faith in FDJ, the same cannot be said for Sergino Dest. Manchester City are said to be interested in signing the Barcelona duo.

Sergino Dest, 21, switched to Barcelona last year and was a regular under Ronald Koeman. The full-back, however, has struggled for minutes under Xavi. Dest hasn’t been able to adapt the Barca style of play and has been clueless on the pitch. Consequently, he has fallen behind the pecking order in Oscar Mingueza and Clement Lenglet. And with Dani Alves being allowed to play for the Blaugrana from January 1, his struggles are bound to get worse.

Bayern Munich were interested to sign the right-back before Barcelona beat them to the player’s signature and Fichajes understands that they are still interested in having the USMNT star in their ranks.

The source also reports that the Bavarians are ready to match any bid that City are likely to offer for the player’s services. Julian Nagelsmann is said to be an admirer of the attacking full-back and the former RB Leipzig coach believes that he can add to Bayern’s attacking style of play. With his pace and the tendency to join the attack, he can fit into the reigning Bundesliga champions’ style of play. Benjamin Pavard, the current right-back tends to stay back rather than making overlapping runs and this is where Dest can help the Bavarians, believes Nagelsmann.

The fee that the Blaugrana are set to ask for the 21-year-old remains unclear but both the clubs would be ready to go as high as £30-40 million since the player still has a long way to go in terms of development and potential.

Do you think Manchester City should consider bringing in Dest, as a possible replacement for Kyle Walker (32)?
