Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong has come under the scanner recently, with the Dutchman’s performances not up to the mark anymore. FDJ was slated to truly launch his Barcelona career under Xavi but that has not happened thus far and Manchester City are keeping a close eye on the player’s situation.

Until this month, FDJ has been considered ‘untouchable’ by the former La Liga champions but with the Blaugrana needing immediate reinforcements, they are now open to selling the 24-year-old, only if a good offer arrives. This comes as per the Spanish outlet, Marca.

Barcelona signed the Dutch midfielder in 2019 for a sum of €70 million-plus €15 million in variables. Having said that, the Catalan giants will expect a similar offer, if not the same that they presented to Ajax.

Frenkie’s slump in form is evident as his search for consistent G/A contributions continues. This year, De Jong has managed to provide only 2 assists while scoring once, in the 1054 minutes he has played.

With the likes of Gavi, and Nico running the show in the middle of the park for the Blaugrana, FDJ needs to regain his form and confidence, if he is to become a regular feature in Xavi’s XI. So far, the 41-year-old has counted on the Dutchman and many signs indicate that he will continue to do until Puig’s display warrant his selection and Frenkie’s doesn’t.

It remains to be seen if Barcelona do want to sell him at the end of the season. The Dutchman will need to prove his worth to the Blaugrana and Xavi if he wants to succeed at Camp Nou. He will be expected to stand up to help his team out of the rut they currently are stuck in.

It is believed that an offer of around €90 million will be required to convince the Catalans to part ways with the 24-year-old. Moreover, the player’s father recently said in an interview that Barcelona might look to sell him to ease their financial problems.

With the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United also said to be linked with the 24-year-old, things could get real interesting if City do consider pursuing the enigmatic midfielder.

It is all happening at Barca right now but do you see FDJ joining City in the near future?
