Manchester City had another successful outing in the Premier League, as on Saturday, they managed to win their home fixture against Wolves. City were able to grab all three points from their latest fixture at the Etihad after forward Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game for his side.
Manchester City had a frustrating start; Jimenez red card created problems for the visitors
Starting favourites at home, the Sky Blues had a solid start to the game as they were able to retain the ball for longer sessions. Guardiola’s front three – Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus although found it tough to breach the opponent backline as they failed to put the ball back into the net.
On the other hand, Bruno Lage’s men did look strong defensively but were absolutely poor in their attacking half as they failed to test Ederson with a clear shot on target. Things went from bad to worse for the visiting side as they saw their star forward Raul Jimenez receive marching orders just before the half-time whistle.
The Mexican international was shown two yellow cards in the span of 31 seconds, which handed a numerical advantage to the Citizens in the latter half of the match.
10-man Wolves suffer; Raheem Sterling wins it for Manchester City!
Jimenez’s red card spelt more trouble for the Wolves as they looked empty in their offensive front. With a man down, Bruno Lage’s side had their backs against the wall as City continued to threaten the visitors’ backline with some excellent chances in their final third.
In the 66th minute, Raheem Sterling stepped up for the hosts after being awarded a penalty for a handball on Joao Moutinho. Despite VAR interference, the decision was not overturned in favour of the Wolves, and moments later the spot-kick was converted by Sterling to make 1-0 in favour of the home side.
In the end, City were lucky to grab three points from their latest outing at home. The lack of clear-cut chances did hurt the hosts and were almost on the verge of dropping points. Nonetheless, Guardiola will be satisfied with his team’s effort after the full-time whistle as his team were able to churn out three points from this vital fixture at their own turf.
