Barcelona raise their offer for Manchester City’s Ferran Torres
It is no big secret now that Barcelona have set sights on Ferran Torres to address their goal-scoring woes. Manchester City are also said to be in talks with the former La Liga champions over the potential winter transfer for the winger.
Barcelona have struggled in front of the goal and that has been hurting them deeply. So much so that the Blaugrana faced a humiliating UEFA Champions League group-stage exit when Bayern Munich dominated them to reach a convincing 3-0 win, despite missing several of their first-team stars.
Dembele’s inaccurate finishing and Depay’s indecisiveness are something that Xavi is looking to address. Having said that, Barcelona want to utilize Ferran Torres’ finishing ability and bolster their hopes of qualifying for the UCL next season and potentially winning the Europa League this season.
The two clubs are said to hold good relations and City have lowered their €70 million asking price for Torres to €60 million. So far, Barcelona have been understood to offer €40 million to secure the Spaniard but Sport understands that the former La Liga champions have tabled a better offer which would see them pay €45 million-plus €15 million in variables, in installments.
With Barca reaching close to City’s €60 million valuation in the form of variables for Torres, the source reports that it is only a matter of time before the clubs involved reach an agreement.
The transfer could go ahead this January with Pep Guardiola giving the green light to the 21-year-old to join Barca.
However, City want a ‘strong’ first installment that would allow them to secure a replacement for Torres right away this January.
With Barcelona missing out on €20 million by not qualifying for the next round of the UCL, it remains to be seen how the Spanish giants manage to land the winger.
One thing is clear for the Blaugrana though. They will need to see as many as three exits this winter, if they are to register Torres, owing to the strict salary cap imposed by the La Liga.
Do you think Ferran Torres will get his dream move this winter?
