Manchester City on the verge of extending contract with Breakout Star

Joao Cancelo has been quite sensational this season for Manchester City, making the left-back position his own and starting in Guardiola’s XI consistently.

The Citizens are reportedly negotiating with the Portuguese full-back on a possible contract extension.

Cancelo, 27, has displaced Oleksandr Zinchenko at the left-back position for a lion share of this season with the Portuguese being arguably the best left-back in the Premier League.

The former Juventus man has been one of the most influential people in the Skyblues setup, especially with his attacking prowess and dribbling ability coming into play.

He was a vital cog in Manchester City’s unbeaten run in the latter part of their campaign, which persisted a span of six matches in which the defending champions scored 18 goals and conceded 6. The streak though ended with the narrow 1-2 loss against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.

Cancelo has a pretty impressive G/A of 5 in 20 appearances (15 PL + 5 UCL) across all competitions for the Cityzens.

High line defense and High press form the core of Guardiola’s style of play and Joao Cancelo fits perfectly into the bill with all his abilities. The 27-year-old is going to establish himself at the Etihad with a contract extension with the reigning Premier League Champions looming.

City has one of the most formidable back lines among the European clubs with the likes of Kyle Walker(RB), Ruben Diaz(CB), Aymeric Laporte(CB), and Joao Cancelo(LB) complementing each other.
