Manchester City forward Ferran Torres is on the verge of a Premier League exit after accepting a five-year contract with FC Barcelona. According to reports, the deal is wrapped up with both the Clubs attaining a total agreement of €45M after negotiating for the past few days.
Barcelona is in a transition phase, especially after a dramatic exit of their all-time highest goal-scorer, Lionel Messi in the summer window to Paris Saint Germain on a Bosman because of the inability of the Spanish giants to cope with his wages.
The Catalans seem to have regained their mojo after the recruitment of Club legend, Xavi Hernandez as their head coach. The Spanish Veteran though is keen on attacking reinforcements to bring back the winning mentality that has been lacking in the players this season.
Ferran Torres seems to be of utmost importance to Xavi’s plot, which mainly involves pure wingers. After several rumors hovering about Raheem Sterling’s potential La-Liga switch, they were buried to the ground with the Englishman back in his element scoring thrice in his last five appearances for the Cityzens.
The former Valencia man had a bright start to his career at the Etihad with 16 goal contributions in 35 outings across several competitions, since joining the Skyblues setup in 2020/21 summer.
Having said that, sustaining a severe Foot injury at the UEFA Nations League didn’t help his cause, ruling him out for three months ahead, enabling others to find form and get ahead of him in the pecking order.
With the Cityzens encircling around premier strikers in the form of Dusan Vlahovic, Erling Haaland, and Harry Kane, Ferran is going to find it extremely tough to break into Guardiola’ XI. The 21-year-old is said to be seduced by the thought of leading the Catalan attack and guaranteed minutes under his belt, something that he will find incredibly tough to attain at Manchester City.
So, with Ferran Torres’ arrival at the Camp Nou a mere formality, how is the movie going to pan out for Xavi’s men?
Let us know.
