Manchester City wanted to sign Harry Kane and the player wanted to join City. Harry Kane was the best player in England last season, notching up the highest goals and the assists tally.  In many ways, Kane and City were a match made in heaven and the Cityzens believed that signing Kane would be the key to their European dominance.

City tabled two massive offers over £100 million but Tottenham’s insistence to stick with their £150 million price tag for their star striker meant that the Englishman would stay at Spurs for the ongoing season.

Kane, 28, is currently undergoing a rough patch and has only managed to find the net once in 13 appearances in the Premier League this season. This is a very pale number in comparison to Kane’s tally of 23 goals and 14 assists last season. In other words, the current Harry Kane is a very faint shadow of the Harry Kane that wanted to leave Spurs this past summer.

In many ways, the Englishman’s poor form is a constant reminder to Spurs and their probable mistake of not having accepted City’s proposal for Harry Kane. The Lillywhites were offered Bernardo Silva in addition to cash for their skipper but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy shot it down and played hardball with the Cityzens.

Moreover, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte, and Gabriel Jesus were also said to be considered for the operation.

Many feel that Spurs never wanted to sell Harry Kane, given that he was their best bet for securing a European spot, and also, they were simply not interested in selling their best player to a direct rival.

"Speaking on the talkSPORT, Tony Cascarino said:If you can get Bernardo Silva in a deal and you lose [Harry] Kane… you get a bit of money. They will pay money and you get Bernardo Silva.“He might not want to leave City and he might not want to go [to Tottenham]. That was, to me, a great option.”Source: talkSPORT"

However, the City train for Harry Kane has left the station as the Sky Blues are tipped to go all-out for Erling Haaland next summer and are considered to be the frontrunners to sign the 21-year-old.
