Manchester City forward Ferran Torres has been tipped to join Barcelona, after agreeing to a five-year contract. However, the Catalans are reportedly seeking favor from their ex-boss Pep Guardiola for the deal to go through in the winter itself.
With Club Legend, Xavi Hernandez at the helm of things, Barcelona are in dire need of attacking reinforcements. They have been linked heavily to many players, especially forwards with the focus being on bolstering their attacking third.
The players in contention are Raheem Sterling, Dani Olmo, Karim Adeyemi, Dusan Vlahovic, Edinson Cavani, and Ferran Torres, with the former Valencia man being the one to break the headlines in later times.
The Spanish winger, after sustaining a serious foot injury at the UEFA Nations League, was ruled out of action for three months. The 21-year-old is going to face an uphill task, after his restart with all of the Skyblue’s attacking trio (Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus, and Raheem Sterling) in sublime form. In other words, the winger will find it tough to break into Pep’s XI, especially with the goals coming consistently.
Ferran agreed to Barca’s deal of leading the Catalan attack for considerably lower wages to seize the golden opportunity of leading the line for a team like the Blaugrana. Moreover, he would be guaranteed playing time in a struggling Barca set-up and would have a crucial role to play. Nevertheless, given the Spanish Club’s financial situation, El Nacional reports that
"Barcelona are willing to pay €50M for the winger but wishes to pay in installments with €30M up front and the rest paid gradually until June."
The report even states that Barcelona President Joan Laporta is
"“Confident that Pep Guardiola will intercede with Ferran Soriano, general manager of the English Club, and former Barca player, to accept a split of the remaining 20 million between January and June.”"
Manchester City’s aspirations of landing the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Harry Kane, or Erling Haaland, would only increase the competition in the final third and that would mean that Ferran in all likelihood will fall down the pecking order.
Ferran Torres’ move to Barcelona is an inevitable one, but when is it going to happen?
Will Pep Guardiola aid his former Club by hastening the process?
Let us know.
