Manchester City considering a part-exchange deal with Barcelona for Ferran Torres
Manchester City are reportedly considering a part-swap deal with Barcelona which would see Sergino Dest come to the Eithad and Ferran Torres go the other way. This comes as per the Spanish outlet El Nacional.
This deal would be in addition to the cash which would be paid in installments by the former La Liga champions.
Dest is tipped to be the ‘next Dani Alves’ at Barcelona but numerous sources have understood that in the Barca ranks, they do not consider Dest to be Barca-quality.
While the American certainly has shown a lot of promise, it is his temperament in crunch situations that are holding him back. This season alone, the full-back has missed two sitters for the Blaugrana, including one in a very tense El Classico.
It is fair to say that his miss could probably define the future course of the season for the Spanish giants but with Xavi as their new boss, things are looking brighter at the club, now.
Dani Alves made a sensational comeback when Barcelona decided to sign him for free a few months back and his arrival has only complicated things for Dest as he now faces an uphill battle to secure his place in the XI.
Dest was played as a right-winger by Ronald Koeman on some occasions and the 21-year-old was impressive but his finishing was what let him down. While that aspect of his game can certainly be worked upon, Dest is slowly starting to establish himself as a versatile player.
He was also tried as left-back and he showed promise on the other side of the flank as well.
All in all, it could be a good deal for the Cityzens as they will need to secure a replacement for Ferran Torres if he does leave the club.
However, the mentioned source is an extremely unreliable one and this rumor can be taken with a pinch of salt. Having said that, players being included in the deal for Ferran Torres cannot be ruled out.
Do you think Manchester City should demand Dest in exchange for Torres or do you want to see the Cityzens go in for someone like Ousmane Dembele, who is said to be out of a contract next summer?
