Ferran Torres agrees a 5-year deal with FC Barcelona
Manchester City striker cum winger Ferran Torres has been heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona in the last 3-4 days.
The Spaniard has been the subject of recent transfer talks between Barcelona and Manchester City. It is understood that Barcelona officials were in Manchester this week to hold potential talks with the reigning Premier League champions over the potential transfer of Raheem Sterling.
With the Englishman hitting form at the right time for the Cityzens, the former Liverpool man has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad with the likes of Phil Foden and Jack Grealish overtaking him.
Having said that, the Sky Blues have been trying to extend the 26-year-old’s contract. With Sterling looking assured of regular game-time now, it does seem like the Englishman looks set to continue with Manchester City for the foreseeable future.
The talks regarding his sale, however, collapsed and the subject of the talks soon shifted to Ferran Torres.
Barcelona boss Xavi’s gameplay is heavily reliant on pure wingers and the 21-year-old fits the bill perfectly. With his finishing skills as well, Barcelona believe Torres could be the man to lead their line.
With City setting a €70 million price tag on him, Barcelona are said to be close to agreeing on a deal for Torres with the Cityzens. Having said that, Goal (relayed by Sport) understands that Torres has verbally agreed on a 5-year deal with the former La Liga champions and looks set to drastically reduce his wages, to complete his dream of leading the line at Barcelona.
Torres is said to be content at Manchester City but the prospect of becoming the focal point of one of the biggest clubs in Europe is too great for him to avoid. Pep Guardiola has given his green light to the Spaniard as well, provided an agreement is reached between the two clubs.
Do you think Barcelona will succeed in their attempt to sign Ferran Torres?
