Guardiola’s Manchester City maintained their dominance in the Premier League on Sunday as they were able to beat West Ham 2-1 at the Etihad on Sunday. The Sky Blues were awarded three points at home thanks to a couple of vital goals from  Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho.

Manchester City dominate from the word go

City kept the pressure on the visiting Hammers side from the very first minute of the game as they were able to create some decent chances in their attacking third. Riyad Mahrez came close to opening the scoring for his team but was ruled offside. In the 33rd minute, Gundogan broke the duck for his side as he converted from close range.

For West Ham, there weren’t solid chances in their attacking half as the likes of Michail Antonio and Pablo Fornals were kept quiet by a formidable City defense.

Guardiola’s side were looking to add a second goal and had some good attacking runs in the Hammer’s box. Fernandinho, who came on for Sterling as a defensive change, scored in the dying moments of the game to give his side a two-goal cushion.

However, David Moyes’ men did hand a last-minute scare to the home side as Manuel Lanzini blasted his shot past Ederson to grab a late consolation goal. In the end, Lanzini’s effort went in vain for the visitors as they couldn’t gain a favorable result after the full-time whistle at the Etihad.

Manchester City go second with this win

After scraping past West Ham, the Cityzens have comfortably retained their second position in the league table. They are now only one point away from current leaders Chelsea, who dropped points against Manchester United on Sunday in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Up next, the Sky Blues are scheduled to travel to Villa Park for their away league assignment against Aston Villa.
