Manchester City have been linked with Real Madrid’s Luka Modric. The Croat is tipped to sign a 1-year extension with the Los Blancos in the coming months but the Cityzens are planning to lure him away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Modric has been absolutely sensational in recent times but there have been hints that Madrid may soon start to prefer the likes of Valverde and Camavinga over the 36-year-old.

The former Ballan d’Or winner has got three assists from 9 outings this season in the La Liga for the Los Blancos and has shown signs of slowing down in recent times. Modric’s consistency though is likely to earn him a new contract with the former La Liga champions.

City want Modric and the midfielder could decide to join City before moving on to the MLS.

Modric has been tipped to move to the USA after his stint with Real Madrid gets over. The 36-year-old could decide to explore the option of spending a season at the Etihad before branching out to one of Manchester City’s sister clubs.

However, it is unlikely that Modric would want to end his spell at Real Madrid in such a manner. Having spent close to a decade in Madrid, he would want to end his career at the Santiago Bernabeu. Nothing can be ruled out though.

Moreover, the current midfield line-up at City is packed enough already and the arrival of Modric would only complicate things. The likes of Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden are some of the options for Pep Guardiola to employ in the middle of the pitch. Not to forget, Rodri has started to show his true potential in recent days.

In other words, Modric is not the need of the hour for the Cityzens, who are actively looking for an out-and-out goal-scorer.
