Manchester City could switch their attention to Sevilla star Youssef En-Nesyri if they fail to land their summer’s no.1 target— Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland reports Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Sport Witness)

The Sky Blues boss Pep Guardiola was left frustrated in the summer after a deal for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane didn’t materialize. Harry Kane had become Pep Guardiola’s primary target to replace Sergio Aguero, who left Manchester City to join Barcelona on a free transfer in July.

Due to the Tottenham star’s poor form this season, Manchester City are unlikely to revive their interest in the January transfer window, focusing instead on trying to get Borussia Dortmund goal-machine Erling Haaland in the summer.

Haaland, 21, is one of the hottest properties in world football due to his ruthless goalscoring rate with Borussia Dortmund. He has scored a staggering 70 goals in 69 appearances since arriving at Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020. Despite enduring an injury-hit current campaign, the 21-year-old has nine strikes in six games under his banner.

Due to Haaland’s world-class quality, potential, and the paltry £63million release clause—which becomes active next summer—he is on the radar of Europe’s elite clubs, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Barcelona. However, Fichajes (h/t Sport Witness) claims that considering the fierce interest in the Norwegian superstar, the Sky Blues could look to pursue a deal for Youssef En-Nesyri if a move for Haaland doesn’t materialize.

En-Nesyri, 24, has enjoyed great success since moving to Sevilla from Leganes in 2020, bagging 33 goals in 87 appearances, with 18 of them coming during the last La Liga campaign. He’s highly rated in Spanish football and has the mix of technical skills and physical traits to thrive in the hustle and bustle of Premier League football.

Considering his success with Sevilla under a tactically astute manager in Julen Lopetegui, the Moroccan falling on the radar of the Cityzens shouldn’t come as a surprise. The report (h/t Sport Witness) adds that En-Nesyri is available for €50m, a price that the Cityzens would have no problem paying as Guardiola wants a striker who is a ‘killer in the box’.

In that regard, the Sevilla sharpshooter fits the bill, although he’s not considered at the top of the Mancunian outfit’s list by any means.
