Manchester City are looking to fill their vacant left-back position next summer as the future of Benjamin Mendy continues to be a matter of speculation. In fact, it is likely that City will terminate the contract of Mendy in the coming weeks but nothing can be said for sure as the Frenchman is currently battling for his future.

Mendy was brought in by City to make the left defensive flank his own but constant injuries and poor form never really saw him realize his full potential at the Etihad. Last season was supposed to be a crucial season for the former Monaco man but he couldn’t make full use of his chances.

Oleksandr Zinchenko proved to be a valuable backup as he had a crucial role to play in City’s dream run, leading them to their maiden UEFA Champions League final appearance and a dominant title-winning display in the Premier League.

As per El Nacional, The 26-year-old’s contract expires in 2023 and he has already attracted a lot of suitors, owing to his impressive run of performances at the Mestalla.

Gaya, 26, is said to be favoring a move to FC Barcelona who have been tracking him for a while now, owing to the fact that Jordi Alba is 32 and is not operating in his prime.

Gaya is currently being termed as one of the best full-backs of his generation and he would certainly be a good fit for Manchester City. Having said that, it won’t be easy for the Cityzens as Juventus are also in the race to sign the Spaniard.

Gaya is rumored to be available for €20 million next summer as Valencia would look to sell him rather than letting him leave on a Bosman in 2023. It could all boil down to the player’s desire to continue in Spain, thus making Barcelona the favorites to sign him. The Cityzens however, have the financial strength to attract him for a stint in the Sky Blue jersey.
