According to reports, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong dismissed the rumors hovering about his potential Premier League switch in Manchester City colors and expressed his desire to continue and excel in the Barca ranks.

The 24-year-old has been one of the shining lights for the Catalan Club besides their Talisman Lionel Messi, ever since his signing from former Club, Ajax in the 2019 season.

The dutchman though is in the middle of a cold streak for both Barcelona and the Netherlands, owing to his drastic decline in form.

In his 13 appearances(9 Laliga + 4 UCL) for the Blaugrana this season, he managed to contribute a mere two assists, and even worse are his stats with his National side where from 10 outings in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers he couldn’t even contribute once.

The Spanish Giants are in dire need of pure wingers and Raheem Sterling seems to be a perfect fit for them.

Guardiola though made his intentions clear with the fact that the Sterling deal is going to be feasible only if they receive an apt replacement. The potential options for Skyblues were Marc Andre Ter Stegen, Ousmane Dembele, Pablo Gavi, and Frenkie De Jong.

The latter was looking the most viable option among the lot with concerns over his form and Barcelona having world-class midfielders in the form of Pedri Gonzalez, Pablo Gavira, and Nico Gonzalez in their ranks.

Manchester City though have very few reasons to ponder upon their midfield which looks a pretty settled one with the likes of Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri.

Barcelona are desperate to raise their capital and Frenkie would at least add €70M to their sum, but after the player’s decision to stay at his beloved club, the deal looks an unfeasible one.

Though many Barcelona players are reported to have left the club against their will in recent times, their new boss Xavi Hernandez is a man who doesn’t allow such things to happen under him.
